Firefly is 📝Adobe's family of generative AI models, launched in 2023, that create images, text effects, and more from plain-language prompts — and are designed from the start to be commercially safe. It is Adobe's answer to what generative AI should be for creators.
Firefly's first models were trained on Adobe Stock, openly licensed work, and public-domain content, so the output is meant to be safe for commercial use rather than trained on the open web without permission. Firefly powers features across Adobe's tools — Generative Fill in 📝Photoshop, generative capabilities in Adobe Express — and attaches Content Credentials so an image carries a record of how it was made.
Rather than a standalone novelty, Firefly is built to sit inside the creative process: a faster way to explore, extend, and iterate that keeps a human in control of the result. It extends Adobe's long-standing promise of creativity for all into the generative era.
