When I hang out with strangers, I try to be nice.
It comes from a selfish desire to be liked and a hope of creating a pathway towards friendship. After all, it’s hard to become friends with someone you don’t find agreeable.
With friends, I’m not always nice, but I try to be kind.
I don’t feel the pressure to be liked, which means I can focus on wanting what’s best for the other.
Kindness is not always pleasant, but it comes from a place of selflessness.
Kindness is more valuable than niceness.
