Mythos

Sylvain Giuliani is VP of Growth at Augment Code, the AI coding platform. He started in 📝lifecycle marketing — learning to code and build systems without leaning on engineers — then rose from marketing manager to CRO at Pusher, and joined Census in 2020 to rebuild its 📝GTM motion from the ground up. He came to Augment as employee number 50 while it was finishing its research phase, with no self-serve product, signup flow, or billing system, and over the following year built the entire GTM motion from scratch, scaling to hundreds of thousands of users with a lean team.

His thesis is that AI companies need leaner teams that use AI to offset margin compression, staffed by technical generalists who write code and build systems that compound on each other. The mechanics are specific: Augment runs account-level 📝ABM directly from Salesforce, then uses AI to prep reps with context before calls — collapsing five meetings into one and shortening large deal cycles to sixty days. Its data architecture is warehouse-first: centralize everything, buy rather than build, but only buy tools that can flow data back, so vendors stay swappable without losing historical context. In interviews he borrows Datadog's approach of posing unsolved problems and watching whose eyes light up, and he positions analytics under GTM rather than finance so data teams optimize for speed and proactively flag what converts.

I had Sylvain on the gtm engineer to rethink GTM for AI-native companies.
