Native community posts let members write directly inside a 📝Communities feed — text, image, link, and poll posts composed in the community itself, alongside the memos contributed from creator libraries.
How It Works
Every community has one Create button opening one dialog, with a tab per post kind: Memo, Text, Image, Link, and Poll. Contributing a memo is open to every member on every plan. The four native kinds need only membership in that community, on any plan. A native post is a bare compose box, so spam control is the community's own: a posting rate limit, collection review, a hold on a new member's first post, and automatic policy flags. Native posts appear in the feed immediately unless a steward-set rule queues them: a collection with review turned on, a hold on a new member's first post, or an automatic policy flag. Stewards and moderators can remove a post that breaks the community's rules, and they never rewrite a member's post; a post the community publishes as itself is the exception, since its stewards edit it.
Key Capabilities
- Text posts — a title plus a body up to 100,000 characters, with inline formatting (bold, italic, strikethrough, code, links) and memo mentions
- Image posts — an uploaded image with an optional caption; the caption can carry memo mentions
- Link posts — a URL with an automatic preview card; if the preview cannot be fetched, the post still publishes and the card falls back to your title and the destination's hostname
- Polls — up to several options, one answer per person; you can change your answer while the poll is open
- Editing a post — an author can rewrite a text post's title and body for 15 minutes after posting, and change its topics, collection and submission note at any time, from the post's ⋯ menu; a reader-visible marker shows edited text
- Author stats strip — viewers, votes, comments, and per-kind counters, shown only to the post's own author
- Topics — stewards define a community's topics; authors pick them when posting and can change them any time from Edit post. Topics show as chips on feed cards and post pages, and a feed filter narrows by topic
- Drafts and bookmarks — save a post as a draft before publishing, and bookmark any community post
Reading Long Posts
A text post's full body is preserved on the post page and in full-content export surfaces. Feed and agent list payloads carry only a bounded body preview while keeping the snippet, title, author and counters intact, so a long essay does not turn every list read into a full document transfer.
Editing a Published Text Post
An author can rewrite a text post's title and body for 15 minutes after posting; after that the words are fixed, though topic, collection and submission note stay editable. A steward may delete a member's post but never rewrite someone else's words. Posts the community publishes as itself are edited by its creator and stewards.
Mentions in Posts
A text post's body and an image post's caption can mention memos, and each mention is checked against the mentioned memo's own visibility: public and unlisted memos can be mentioned freely, a hidden memo asks for your explicit confirmation before publishing, and a private memo can never be mentioned in a post. Titles, image alt text, and poll options never carry mentions. 📝Comments carry mentions on every post kind.
FAQ
- Why does the stats strip say "Viewers" instead of "Views"? Because it counts people, not page loads — one per person, however often they return. That is the opposite of what "views" means on your memo analytics page, where every page load counts, so the two surfaces use two different words on purpose.
- Why don't I see the Text, Image, Link, or Poll tabs? Native posting requires membership in the community; join it first. Plan does not matter.
- Can a steward edit my post? No. Stewards and moderators can remove a post, but only you can change its words (within 15 minutes of posting) and its topics.
- Does editing a post break links to it? No. The URL keeps the address the post was published under, even if you change the title.
