Fusion Industry Association (FIA) is the trade association of private fusion companies and their supply chain, advocating for the policies, funding, and regulation needed to bring πfusion electricity to the grid.
Formed in 2018 and incorporated as an independent non-profit association in May 2021, the FIA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and led by chief executive Andrew Holland. Its membership spans the industry it speaks for: several dozen private fusion companies as full members, joined by a larger body of affiliate members β suppliers, engineering firms, utilities, law firms, and investors β along with academic and research partners. The association describes itself as the voice of the private fusion industry, a deliberate counterpart to the government laboratories and international projects that dominated fusion's first seventy years.
The FIA's fingerprints are on most of the policy architecture of commercial fusion in the United States. It advocated for the public-private milestone funding model adopted by the Department of Energy, campaigned for fusion to be regulated separately from nuclear fission β the position the Nuclear Regulatory Commission adopted in 2023 β and publishes an annual report on the global fusion industry that has become the standard reference for tracking private fusion companies, their employment, and the billions of dollars in private capital behind them.
