Objective
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), formally known as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, is a comprehensive U.S. federal statute enacted in 2010. It represents the most significant regulatory overhaul of the U.S. healthcare system since the 1965 passage of Medicare and Medicaid. The primary objectives of the legislation are to increase health insurance coverage for the uninsured and to implement reforms intended to reduce the overall cost of medical care. It achieved this by expanding Medicaid eligibility and creating regulated health insurance Marketplaces where individuals can purchase subsidized coverage.
