Mythos

Kayfabe is the portrayal of staged events as "real" or "true", specifically portrayals of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants in the drama as being genuine and not of a staged or predetermined nature of any kind. Kayfabe has also evolved to become a code word of sorts for maintaining this "reality" within the direct or indirect presence of the general public.

Kayfabe originated in professional wrestling and has spread across entertainment, media, politics, etc. Where 📝satire points at the absurdity of the truth, kayfabe intends to creates a new one.

"With each passing year, more and more facets of popular culture become something like wrestling: a stage-managed "Reality" in which scripted stories bleed freely into real events, with the blurry line between truth and untruth seeming to heighten, not lessen, the audience's addiction to the melodrama." ~ Jeremy Gordon, Is Everything Wrestling?
