The Global Living Asset Management Performance (LAMP) Index is a learning laboratory of sixty (60) corporate pioneers in Living Asset Stewardship (LAS) (LAS). It was conceived as a research project in 1995 to inform the writing of Profit for Life (2006). The Index sought LAS exemplars in a diverse spectrum of global industry and sectors—companies that were pioneers in an emerging management genre that mimicked the organization and behavior of Living Systems. [1][2]
When completed in 2004, the composition of the Global LAMP Index® was roughly comparable in asset allocation to peer indices, such as the Morgan Stanley Corporate International (MSCI) World Index and the Financial Times (FTSE) Global Index. This made performance comparisons credible.
The exceptional performance of LAMP60 companies relative to these benchmarks led to the subsequent publication of Companies that Mimic Life (2016). Through case studies of seven leadership companies, the book shows how LAS best practices lift profitability above LAMP norms – especially in mature industries that normally underperform.
Northfield Information Services (www.northinfo.com), a global financial consultancy, analyzed and independently verified Global LAMP Index® returns several times, most recently in March, 2016, when they authenticated results from 1995 through 2015. Results for 2016 and 2017 have not been independently verified, although we stand by their authenticity.
LAMP companies have demonstrated an exceptional capacity to reinvent themselves over time. The average and median ages of companies in the LAMP 60 exceeds a century and the oldest one (founded in 1288) is more than 700 years old.
