Healthchecks.io is a monitoring service for cron jobs and other scheduled tasks, publicly launched in July 2015 by Latvian developer Pēteris Caune. It works as a dead man's switch: each monitored job pings the service on its expected schedule, and a missed ping triggers an alert — catching silent failures that outside-in uptime checks miss. The service is free for hobby projects, open-source projects, and non-profits, with paid plans for commercial use.
The codebase is published under a BSD license and can be self-hosted; the hosted service is operated by SIA Monkey See Monkey Do, a one-person company based in Riga, Latvia. The company publishes its operating metrics — per its self-reported figures as of mid-2026, roughly 60,000 free accounts, about 900 paying accounts, and around $20,500 in monthly recurring revenue — and donates 5% of monthly recurring revenue to open-source projects via GitHub Sponsors.
