Nieman Journalism Lab is a journalism research and analysis project published by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University, founded in 2008 under founding director Joshua Benton, focused on the business, technology, and ethics of digital-era journalism.
The lab publishes daily reporting, original research, and an end-of-year "Predictions for Journalism" series in which dozens of editors, technologists, and academics contribute short forecasts that has become a recurring industry reference. Its coverage spans newsroom business models, platform-and-publisher relationships, audience analytics, AI in journalism, paywalls and subscription dynamics, and structural changes in local news, often quoted by trade publications and academic researchers studying the news industry. The Nieman Foundation itself — the lab's institutional home — was established by a 1937 bequest from Agnes Wahl Nieman to promote and elevate the standards of journalism.
