Siva Vaidhyanathan is an American cultural historian, media scholar, and professor at the University of Virginia, where he directs the Center for Media and Citizenship and writes regularly on the cultural, political, and economic dimensions of digital media and platform power.
Vaidhyanathan is the author of several books including Copyrights and Copywrongs (2001), The Anarchist in the Library (2004), The Googlization of Everything: And Why We Should Worry (2011), and Antisocial Media: How Facebook Disconnects Us and Undermines Democracy (2018). He is a fellow of the New York Institute for the Humanities and the Institute for the Future of the Book, a frequent contributor to publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Slate, and The Baffler, and has appeared in documentary films such as Terms and Conditions May Apply (2013), Inside the Mind of Google (2009), and Starving the Beast (2016). He serves on the board of the Digital Public Library of America.
