Objective
Victim narrative is a primary psychological defense mechanism and manipulative strategy within Cluster B personality pathologies like Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). To identify how this narrative is used to evade accountability, garner "supply" (sympathy/attention), and control the perception of external observers. To the individual, this narrative is often not perceived as a lie, but as an emotional reality—a shield against "toxic shame." For the observer, it creates a disorientation effect (gaslighting), where the actual aggressor successfully frames themselves as the oppressed party. It feels like a weaponized helplessness that demands capitulation or rescue.
