Mythos

You are tracking which AI answers mention your brand. The number moves, and nobody can tell you whether it moved anything else — traffic, pipeline, or the searches people run next.

The Challenge

Every AI visibility platform on the market measures the same layer: what the models output and who they cite. That layer is real, and it is one of three. 📝Citation Share as a Proxy Metric is the reason this gets slippery — different studies rarely share a denominator, so two charts of the same phenomenon cannot be plotted on one line. The consequence shows up the moment a number breaks. When 📝Reddit's ChatGPT citation share fell roughly 86 percent inside a single day in August 2026, referral traffic from the platform did not move with it. One of those two signals was describing reality and the other was not, and no dashboard in the category could say which. The structural reason is age: 📝Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) grew up as a single-channel discipline and is still measured like one — impressions inside one surface, counted in isolation. That was adequate while the surface was new.

The Approach

What changes is the frame: AI search stops being a channel you monitor and becomes a stage you measure against the stages around it. Citations and outputs get read alongside SERP position, referral and traffic paths, and the on-site query strings visitors actually arrive carrying — so a movement in one layer can be checked for whether it propagated into the next. Where influence is genuinely upper-funnel, the instruments come from brand marketing rather than performance marketing: incremental lift and halo effect, techniques that have measured hard-to-attribute demand since well before 📝Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) had a name. This is the same transition paid search completed about eight years ago, when it stopped being a single-channel tactic and became a journey tactic.

What Changes

Before: a citation chart moves, and the debate about what it means is unfalsifiable — every reading is defensible because nothing downstream is being watched. After: the same movement gets checked against SERP position, referral paths, and arriving queries, and it either propagated or it did not. The practical difference is not a better number. It is that the argument ends, budget stops being justified by a proxy nobody can validate, and the work that gets funded is the work that showed up in a second signal.

Go Deeper

The part I do not have a good answer for: the execution layer runs on shared infrastructure, and shared infrastructure needs scale to be worth standing up. It works for enterprises, and it works for a solo founder doing their own AMA in their own voice. Between those — seed and Series A — I have not found anything that scales honestly, and I would rather say that than sell around it.
