Mythos

Lemonade (NYSE: LMND) is an American insurance technology company founded in 2015 by Daniel Schreiber and Shai Wininger and headquartered in New York City, offering renters, homeowners, pet, car, term life, and content insurance through a fully digital, AI-mediated underwriting and claims experience.

The company built its early brand around a flat-fee business model and a Giveback program that donates leftover premiums to nonprofits chosen by policyholders, a structure designed in collaboration with behavioral economist ๐Ÿ“Dan Ariely. Lemonade processes a large share of its claims through an AI agent (Maya) and its underlying chatbot stack, and has publicly published transparency reports documenting loss ratios and Giveback totals each year since launch. It went public on the New York Stock Exchange in July 2020 and has since expanded its product mix through both organic launches and the 2022 acquisition of car-insurance startup Metromile.

Lemonade was first shared with me by ๐Ÿ“Mark Goulston when he mentioned that Dan Ariely was their resident behavioral scientist; I became a customer largely on the strength of their early ๐Ÿ“Reddit Advertising campaigns.
