Nanoleaf is a Canadian smart-lighting company, founded in 2012 in Toronto, that designs energy-efficient LED products—most recognizably its modular, touch-reactive light panels—for the connected home.
Founded by University of Toronto engineers Gimmy Chu, Christian Yan, and Tom Rodinger, who met on the school's solar-car team, Nanoleaf launched on 📝Kickstarter in 2013 with one of the world's most energy-efficient LED bulbs before pivoting toward the decorative, app- and voice-controlled panel systems—Shapes, Lines, and Canvas—it is now best known for. Its products support the major smart-home ecosystems and the 📝Matter connectivity standard, part of the broader 📝Internet of Things (IoT) landscape, over low-power Thread networking. The company operates globally from offices in Toronto, Shenzhen, Paris, and Hong Kong.
I run Nanoleaf panels and Essentials bulbs throughout my house, wired into my Home Assistant setup.
