Restoration Hardware (NYSE: RH, branded as "RH" since 2012) is an American high-end home-furnishings retailer founded in 1980 in Eureka, California by Stephen Eric Gordon, now headquartered in Corte Madera and led by chairman and CEO Gary Friedman.
The company evolved from a single small-town hardware-and-housewares store into a vertically integrated luxury lifestyle brand whose go-to-market is anchored by a sequence of large-format "RH Galleries" — typically multi-floor immersive retail spaces that blend furniture display, restaurants, and architecture — and a series of oversized hardcover catalogues mailed annually. Under Friedman's leadership the brand has aggressively repositioned upmarket, layered in adjacent businesses (RH Interior Design, RH Hospitality, the RH Guesthouse hotel concept, and the RH Members program), and explored international expansion into the UK, Belgium, Germany, France, and Spain. Critics and analysts have variously praised the brand for its design discipline and warned about its sensitivity to high-end housing-market cycles.
