How to set up a Claude Code project so a coordinator runs your related tasks as parallel threads while you step away.
Use a project when one goal keeps producing tasks over days or weeks; see 📝Claude Code Projects for how it works and 📝Claude Coordinator for the role Claude plays in it.
What You'll Need
- A Pro or Max plan with Projects showing in the sidebar at claude.ai/code or in the desktop app's Code tab (it may sit under More)
- For code work, a GitHub repository with the Claude GitHub App installed and push access from your connected account
Steps
- Open Projects — Select Projects in the left sidebar, then New project. The New project dialog opens.
- Name and scope it — Enter a name, an optional one-line goal, and the repositories or files most tasks need, then click Create project. The project conversation opens.
- Write the brief — Open Project settings > Memory > Project instructions and state the branch to start from, how a thread checks its work, and what needs your go-ahead. Every new thread starts from this text.
- Check models — In Project settings > General, review Thread model and Coordinator model. New projects run Opus everywhere, which uses your plan fastest.
- Send one small task first — Describe one real piece of work in the conversation. Claude starts a thread and shows it as a card under your message.
- Review the thread — Open the card when it finishes and read what it did on its branch. Correct any wrong assumption and ask Claude to remember the correction.
- Send the batch and walk away — Paste the rest of the tasks and say whether to start without asking. Check Overview later for threads that are ready for review or waiting on you.
