Mythos

Figma is an American software company, founded in 2012 and based in San Francisco, whose browser-based design platform is a leading tool for interface and product design. Its collaborative, real-time editor turned design into a shared, multiplayer activity.

Figma was founded by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace and launched its design tool publicly in 2016. By running entirely in the browser with live multi-user editing, it became the standard environment for many interface, product, and design-system teams, and it grew into a category leader for UI design and prototyping backed by substantial venture funding. Its rise reset expectations for how collaborative, cloud-native creative software should work.

In September 2022 we agreed to acquire Figma for about $20 billion, but we mutually terminated the deal in December 2023 after seeing no clear path through European and UK regulators — and we paid a $1 billion termination fee. It remains the most significant acquisition we chose to walk away from.
