John Warnock (1940–2023) was an American 🏷️#computer-scientist, inventor, and 🏷️#co-founder of 📝Adobe. He wrote 📝PostScript, co-created the 📝PDF document format, and is widely regarded as the father of desktop publishing.

Warnock earned a doctorate in electrical engineering from the University of Utah and worked at Xerox PARC, where he developed an early printing language, Interpress, under the direction of 📝Charles Geschke. When Xerox declined to commercialize the technology, the two resigned in 1982 and founded Adobe — named for Adobe Creek, which ran behind Warnock's home. He served as the company's chief executive officer until 2000 and remained co-chairman of the board with Geschke, and in 2009 the two received the U.S. National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
